Description
Accelerate your bedroom decor with the Ruthie Platform Bed. Made with a solid wood frame upholstered in Vegan Leather, Ruthie features tapered wood legs, plastic foot glides, stylish headboard, and ten sturdy wood slats with a centered supporting bar and two support legs for enhanced stability. Due to the wooden slat support system, the use of a box spring is unnecessary. Ruthie supports memory foam mattresses such as our Aveline series. Perfect for mid-century modern, eclectic and contemporary bedrooms. Mattress not included. Assembly Required.

I'll start with the pros. The bed looks exactly like the photo. Lovely frame, headboard, etc. If your headboard can't rest against the wall (due to a baseboard or whatnot), I'd probably put some padding behind it if you sit up in your bed a lot. Assembly was straightforward and very easy to do with 2 people. Love the look, great color, and really like that it's a woven texture instead of a simple flat color. Now the major cons. The center support legs cannot support weight whatsoever. Immediately upon assembly, you'll notice the legs are too short, even after you adjust the feet as much as safely possible. No worries, this is easy to fix with an adhesive pad or two. However, the center legs are made of an incredibly soft wood. I weigh 130 pounds. Between myself and my mattress, the center support legs were broken within a matter of days. One was at about a 45-degree angle and the other was off entirely, having majorly split at the connecting juncture. Without the support legs, your mattress will absolutely sag towards the middle of the bed, even if you're just sleeping on one side. I tried adding L brackets to each of the legs, securing them more to the middle support beam, which helped, but still subjected the center legs to an unsafe amount of lateral wobble.I ended up constructing my own center legs out of a much thicker, stronger wood and added a plywood board under the mattress on top of the slats. The bed works great now, but not without a significant amount of effort. If there's one thing a bed needs to do, it's support weight. I'm not a very large person, and if the bed was breaking on me, it will break on you too. A brand new bed should not break within days of normal use. The price point is nice, but you will end up spending much more to make it actually functional.
